Sangiorgio Marine launches the “Atlantic Dragon” Award to celebrate the skippers and yachts born under the arches of the Genoese shipyard.

Four years after its founding on the quays of the Port of Genoa, the shipyard led by Edoardo Bianchi celebrates the yachts built under its arches and the skippers who sail them across the Atlantic routes with an exclusive award dedicated to them.

“Atlantic Dragon 2025” will be the first edition of a recognition that the Genoese company will grant to the highest-ranked yacht built by Sangiorgio Marine participating in the autumn transatlantic race between Europe and the islands of Central America.

This year, the award will be presented on the occasion of the Transat Café L’Or, which departed from Le Havre on October 26th, bound for Martinique. Formerly known as the Transat Jacques Vabre, this race has been held every two years since 1993. The 2025 edition features six yachts built by Sangiorgio Marine: six Class40 vessels, specifically Musa40s.

The first Musa40 produced by the company was the renowned Alla Grande Pirelli (2022), which, together with skipper Ambrogio Beccaria, brought international attention to the Genoese shipyard led by Bianchi — himself an Olympic sailor and engineer involved in several America’s Cup projects, including BAR, INEOS, and later as head of construction for Prada Pirelli.

Following Alla Grande Pirelli, other boats were launched: Influence2 (skippered by Andrea Fornaro), Acrobatica (Alberto Riva), Les Invincibles (Pietro Luciani), Ekinox (Benoit Sineau), Maccaferri Futura (Luca Rosetti), and Solano (Robin Follin). On October 26th, at the starting line of the Transat Café L’Or, Alla Grande reappeared with the new VSF Sport livery and skipper Pep Costa, alongside her sister ships. Unfortunately, Acrobatica was missing, following a collision during the Québec–Saint-Malo route in July 2024.

“Seeing six of our boats lined up at the start of one of the most important transoceanic races was truly moving and deeply satisfying,” said Edoardo Bianchi, CEO of Sangiorgio Marine, who continued: “The yachts have proven to be highly performing, and this is a wonderful calling card for us — both as a shipyard and as ambassadors of Italian quality.”

From Bianchi’s pride also comes the desire to thank and reward the skippers who sail Sangiorgio-built boats across the Atlantic. “Atlantic Dragon 2025 will be the first edition of an award we wish to give, as builders, to the top-ranked among our yachts participating in a prestigious ocean crossing — in this case, across the Atlantic.

Our logo is a dragon, the dragon of Saint George — the symbol of Genoa, but also a historic protector of seafarers — and it seemed fitting to use this strong image to say ‘Congratulations’ to the skippers who chose our boats to conquer the Atlantic,” explained the shipyard’s CEO.
