BGH-HSV: Flying over water at 50 knots – in silence

On March 18, 2024, in the presence of the leaders of Bluegame and San Lorenzo, in Sangiorgio Marine we launched the first BGH-HSV: hydrogen catamaran, built by the Genoese shipyard for Bluegame, which will follow the American Magic team during the next edition of the America’s Cup. HSV, acronym for Hydrogen Suppported Vessel, is the hydrogen-powered foiling catamaran, an example of the most advanced technology in the nautical sector. A boat capable of reaching 50 kn flying over the water and having water as its only emission, thus sailing in silence and reducing the environmental impact.

The American Magic chaseboat was built under the spans of the Genoese shipyard, which took care of the creation of the recycled carbon molds and subsequently the prepreg lamination of all the composite parts. The second boat, for the French team, will also see the light on the docks of Sangiorgio Marine.

HSV represents an important milestone both for design and construction technology and for the environment: the hydrogen electricity supply, together with the use of foils, make the vessel at the forefront in optimizing consumption and environmental impact.
